Bobby Bruce Powell, 81, of Robert, Louisiana, received his final wish on March 13, 2025; to be with his beloved Pokey. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by love.
Bobby was a hard worker and loving father. He worked building bridges for Boh Bros. Construction Local # 58 for 42 years then moved on to work for Tangipahoa Parish Sheriffs Department for 11 years before finally retiring. Although Bobby had a tough exterior, to really know him you knew what a loving and generous person he was. He and Joann fed the hungry, paid bills for the poor and took in the lost and lonely. His many acts of kindness were often subtle but with great impact on the recipient. When he wasn’t working, you could find him deep in the woods waiting on a big buck to show himself. He loved hunting: deer, squirrel and rabbits didn’t stand a chance. When not hunting, he loved fishing even catching big ole turtles which he’d turn into turtle sauce piquante. Every Thanksgiving, you could find him in Joinerville helping make syrup from the sugar cane he grew. Bobby will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his children: Brian B. Powell (Christy), Barry D. Powell Sr. (Marie) & Beverly L. Powell: nine grandchildren, Desirae Marie Flanagan, Brian Michael Powell (Summer), Barry D. Powell Jr. (Amanda), Morgan Rivet (Jake), Devin Powell, Shay Morgan (Charlie), Nathan Weir, Caleb Lucas, and Irma Shelby Hyde: five great-grandchildren, Jared Tate Flanagan, Ryliegh Paige Powell, Jaxson Kyle Flanagan, Morgan Lee Powell and Charlee Rae Morgan: Sisters Kathy Hilburn (Ronny) and Linda Simmons: and one grand dog, Bandit.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Joann L. Bennett Powell; parents John T. Powell, and Edna Sumrall Powell, and siblings, Joyce Pearson, Minnie Faye McMorris, Ethel Mae Cutrer and Dwight “Chuck” Powell and his foster children Kelly Dykes and Krystal Dykes Hill.
