Beverly S. Cheek passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021, in Covington, Louisiana, at the age of 91. She was born on Monday, July 7, 1930 in the 9th Ward in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Barbara Bauer Schenck and the late George Schenck, Sr. She was a resident of Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
Beverly married Lee Roy Cheek, Jr. on May 17, 1952, and bought a house in Gentilly Woods, where her two sons, Lee and Mark, were born. After 18 years, Beverly and her family moved to Chalmette into a home that she and Roy built themselves where she was a homemaker. It was there that she joined Prince of Peace Church when it was formed in 1971. Beverly was a Minister of the Eucharist and Reader for 23 years and in 2005 received the St. Louis award. After Royâs death, she went back to school at 56 years old and obtained her degree as a medical assistant. She worked for Dr. Francisco Soler for 8 years taking care of many his patients. After Hurricane Katrina, Beverly moved to Hammond and lived there for about 18 months before moving into a garden home in Ponchatoula, where she formed many wonderful friendships. Â From Pokeno on Friday evenings, bingo on Wednesdays, field trips with the AARP or lunch dates with friends, she had a busy social calendar, just the way she liked it. She always found time for her family first and one of her greatest blessings was her grandson Andrew. Â Beverly was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. To quote many, she was the kindest, sweetest, most sincere person to know. To know her, was to love her!
Beverly is survived by her sons, Lee Roy Cheek III (Becky), Mark A. Cheek (Margie); grandchildren, Andrew Cheek, Josh Krol, Adam Dickelman, and Ryan Dickelman; and niece, Nancy Schenck.
In addition to her parents, Beverly is also preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roy Cheek, Jr.; and her brother, George Schenck, Jr.
