Benedict Recatto

Benedict “Benny” Recatto was born May 25, 1937, in Hammond, LA to the late Charles R. and Mathilda Gagliano Recatto. He passed away October 4, 2024, in Hammond. Benny was a resident of Hammond and a former longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish. He was a graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University and obtained a Bachelor, Masters and Masters plus thirty degrees. He was a retired educator having taught thirty years in St. Bernard Parish followed by seven years in Tangipahoa Parish. Benny married Judy Birrcher Recatto at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in New Orleans, LA, and they were married for sixty-three years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Scott Recatto, and his wife Lynna and Craig Recatto; three grandsons, Jordan Recatto, Kalan Recatto, and Jared Recatto; a brother, Charles J. Recatto; and a sister, Cosmella Waguespack. He is preceded in death by his brother, Russell Recatto. Benny and Judy were parishioners of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in New Orleans. He enjoyed watching sports, particularly football and baseball. After retirement, he took up the sport of playing golf and enjoyed many days on the golf course. Visitation and funeral services were held Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home in Hammond, followed by entombment in Rose Mausoleum.
