Barbara Bowman Swede

Barbara Bowman Swede was born July 22, 1933, in Terra Alta, West Virginia to the late Philip Owen Bowman and Nellie Custer Bowman. She passed away June 25, 2025. Barbara was a long-time resident of Hammond. She retired as a district manager for Avon Products. Barbara was a member of First Baptist Church of Ponchatoula where she sang in the church choir for many years. She enjoyed China Painting with her longtime Slidell friends. Barbara is survived by her son, Ron Swede (Wanda); daughter, Pam Swede Danley (Ed); grandchildren, Philip Swede, Rebekah Goree (Seth), Blake Danley (Elizabeth), Eric Danley (Sierra), and Philip Danley (Hannah); great grandchildren, Mallory Swede, Madison Danley, Blake Danley Jr., and Stevie Jo Danley; and longtime friends, Ruth Ann Babcock and Peggy Woods. Barbara is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Alex Swede; and sisters, Colleen Orndorff, Janice Patterson, and Joyce English. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Ponchatoula, 325 East Pine Street, Ponchatoula, Friday, July 4, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until memorial services at 3:00 p.m. Barbara will be laid to rest next to her husband in Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell at a later date.
