Barbara Joy Strobach

A kind, patient, fun, and loving mother and a devoted wife with a delightful laugh, Barbara Strobach, lived up to her middle name of Joy. Born December 11, 1951, she passed away at the age of 74, on January 30, 2026, at home. Her beautiful essence slipped away all too early to dementia.

Barbara entered into eternal rest with her parents, Dr. Salvatore J. and Pauline Cali; grandparents, Joseph and Mary Locascio; as well as her sister-in-law, Martha Cali.

She leaves behind her husband, Dr. Richard. Barbara remains beloved by her three daughters and their spouses, Meghann and Mark Stenersen, Bridgette Strobach, and Rebecca and Matt Jeanfreau. She lives on in her four grandchildren, Riley, Soren, Sal Joe, and Bryce. She is also survived by her siblings, Sal J. Cali of Metairie and Paula (Jerry) Hymel of Hammond.

Barbara was raised in Hammond, Louisiana. She was a Torette at Hammond High and a graduate of Sophie Newcomb Memorial College of Tulane University, where she studied anthropology. In New Orleans, working as an adult and child protective services worker, she met her husband of 50 years.

They moved to Hammond onto a property full of camellias and named it Pennygreen. Barbara managed his medical practice for 40 years where she lent warm smiles, a listening ear, and reassuring calmness.

Barbara loved National Parks, especially wildflower meadows and hiking to mountaintop lakes. Remember her when resting atop a rock with an amazing vista or when in a beautiful garden.

The family will hold a private Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to: National Park Foundation, https://www.nationalparks.org.
