Barbara Jean Montero

 Barbara Jean Courtney Montero, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died at home on Sunday, September 24, 2023. She was 89 years old. Mrs. Montero was born in Collins, AK, and moved to River Ridge, LA after marrying her late husband, George Irwin Montero Jr. While raising her own children in the 60s and 70s, she devoted her additional time working with the Project Head Start program at Live Oaks Elementary School in New Orleans and later at Washington Elementary School in Kenner, LA. In the 80s, she partnered with River Oaks Mental Health Center mentoring at-risk teens. She then moved to Hammond, LA with her husband and lived in her home hosting holiday gatherings for the past 22 years. Throughout her full and beautiful life, she enjoyed following the spiritual path of Siddha Yoga, daily crossword puzzles, and cooking family meals utilizing traditions passed down from her late mother and mother-in-law. Mrs. Montero is survived by her children, Clifford James Montero, Edward Christopher Montero, and Cynthia Montero Shelley; six grandchildren, Jessica Montero Talbot, Jamie Montero Dowd, Elizabeth Montero Dale, Samantha Shelley Garcia, Clifford Montero Jr., and Megan Montero Gendusa; and seven great-grandchildren, Mary Alice Talbot, Evie Talbot, Graham Talbot, Aurora Dowd, Edith Dowd, Ryder Montero, and Lucas Garcia.

A private memorial service will be held in her home.
