Barbara Ellen DeBose Estess was born January 17, 1929 in Many, LA, and passed away February 24, 2022 in Hammond, LA. Â She will be interred at a gravesite service Friday, March 4, 2022, 1:00 pm, Centuries Memorial, Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana. Â Raised in Many, Louisiana, she was the daughter of James Thomas DeBose and Gladys Hopkins DeBose.
She graduated from Many High School and in 1946, graduated from Elliott Business School in Beaumont, Texas. Â She worked as a secretary for the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service in Many before she married the love of her life, Delbert Estess. Â They lived most of their lives in Shreveport, Louisiana. Â Beginning in 1971, she worked as a secretary at Brentwood Hospital in Shreveport for several years. Â Barbara devoted her life to being a housewife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Â She was always there for every activity - traveling long distances to go to football, baseball and soccer games, swim meets, musical concerts, dance recitals and theatre productions. She enjoyed being involved with Brookwood Baptist Church, The Daughters of the American Revolution, the garden club and other organizations. Â Barbara loved travel, genealogy research, making ceramics and especially reading. Â
She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Lafitte Estess. Â She is survived by her son Gary Estess and wife Gelly, Kingwood, Texas; daughter Jo Estess Ziller, Hammond, Louisiana; grandson Karr Shannon IV, Hattiesburg, Mississippi; granddaughter Jennifer Estess Lockhart and husband Nathaniel, Saltillo, Mississippi; Â six great-grandchlldren, Kade Shannon, Ellie Shannon, Anna Karr Shannon, Luke Lockhart, Noelle Lockhart, and Levi Lockhart. Â
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be donated to the local library.
