Barbara Ambler Clock passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2022, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 83. She was born on Friday, April 28, 1939 in Los Angeles, California to the late Ruth Forster Benschoter and the late Ray Benschoter. She was most recently a resident of Hammond, Louisiana.
Barbara loved to travel, not only for travelâs sake but to visit her family which was flung far and wide across the country. She included her children and her grandchildren in her adventures. She was a social person and loved getting to know people wherever she went. Barbara loved to dance; she started dancing as a child and danced in productions until well into her middle age. At home, she loved to garden and to read and watch action-adventure movies. Â She had a brief career as a physical therapist after earning her degree the same year as both of her daughters.
Barbara lived in California in her early life, and after a brief stint in Colorado where she and her husband Peter started their family, moved back. Â From there she moved to Michigan, where she spent a number of years. Â She and her second husband Jerry built their retirement home on a mountain in Brevard, NC. Â Barbara was a member of Brevard Davidson Presbyterian church for nearly 30 years. She loved the mountains of North Carolina and her community there, but a few years ago she felt the desert calling and built a home near Phoenix where she very much enjoyed installing a desert garden.
Barbara is survived by her children, Peter Douglass Ambler and his partner, Jill Farrington, Jane Ambler Patterson and her husband, Robert Ned, Susan Elizabeth McAlexander and her husband Ray, James Robert Ambler and his wife, Robyn, and Timothy Ray Ambler; her grandchildren, Daniel G. Patterson and his wife, Deanna, Adrienne Elizabeth Mayard and her husband, Joseph, Nora Katharine Larsen and her husband, Gary, Jordan Ambler and his wife, Emily, Chris Ambler, Cameran Ambler, Stewart McAlexander, Forster McAlexander, Brianne Ambler, Ethan Ambler and Madison London; and her aunt, Jane Forster Giddings who will turn 102 this year.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ray Benschoter; mother, Ruth Forster Benschoter; brother, Robert Alexander Benschoter.
