Austin Kirby "Beebs" Lofton II

Austin Kirby Lofton II (Beebs) was born October 14, 1942 in Brookhaven, Mississippi to the late Alice and Austin Lofton and passed away April 4, 2024. Kirby attended Kentwood High School where he also played football. He studied at Southeastern Louisiana University prior to joining the Navy in his endeavor to see the world. His love of travel and adventure persisted as he explored Europe, the jungles of Costa Rica, the beaches of Aruba, the Amazon River in Brazil, all the way to kissing the Blarney Stone in Ireland. In addition to his international travels, his adventurous soul led him to visit 49 United States. Kirby’s story-telling was renowned within the family as he loved to share tales of his adventures. He had a treasured group of camping buddies affectionately known as the “Biddy Club” including Jack Elarton, Ken Morris, Charles Carruth, Jerry Woodward, Cecil Cutrer, & Doug Elarton. Kirby was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing, from hand grabbing and gator hunting on the river to crabbing and saltwater fishing from his pier in Grand Isle. After retiring from AT&T, he made his home in Grand Isle, LA enjoying the island life before moving to Ponchatoula, LA. 

Kirby is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Priscilla Ott Lofton; his 3 children Susie Fortenberry (Jim), Austin Lofton (Jen), Steven Lofton (Vanessa); 5 grandchildren Jake Fortenberry, Jed Fortenberry (Jayde), Carley Whitney (Cole), Hayley Varisco (Cory), and Alexis Lofton (Lance); 5 great-grandchildren Jace Fortenberry, James Fortenberry, Greer Grey Whitney, Penelope Varisco, and Ace Varisco; 4 bonus grandchildren Seth, Natalia, Guilianna, and Giovanni; Siblings Billy Lofton (Pat), Troy Lofton (Debbie), and Brenda Perrere. 

In addition to his parents, Kirby is preceded in death by his in-laws Abo and Kathryn Ott, sister Faye Lofton, and brothers-in-law Don Perrere, Bubba Ott, and Rex Ott. 

The family would like to say a special thank-you to Dr. Steve Gaudin and the doctors and nurses at North Oaks Medical Center. 

A celebration of his life will be held at a later time.
