Armon Rose Barksdale Hartman

Armon Rose Barksdale Hartman passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at her residence in Albany, Louisiana, with her family by her side, at the age of 77.  Armon was born on Wednesday, January 10, 1940 in Ferriday, Louisiana to Ruth and Grady Barksdale.  She graduated in 1959 from Amherst Regional High School in Amherst, Massachusetts.

Armon married the love of her life, Donald Hartman, on Saturday, October 26, 1963 at Seuier Memorial Methodist Church in Ferriday, Louisiana.  Shortly after their wedding, Armon and Donald moved to Grand Island, Nebraska where she worked at a local camera shop.  Later in her life, after moving back to Louisiana, she worked as a caring employee for the Landmark Nursing Home in Hammond, Louisiana.

Armon always loved to crochet, sew, cook and love on her many grandchildren to whom she was known as Maw Maw, Mee Maw, and Grandma.  She was very proud to be a member of the West Church of Christ in Hammond, Louisiana.

Armon is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Donald Louis Hartman; son, Scott Hartman and his wife, Crystal; daughter, Deonna Howell and her husband, Jerry Sr.; sister, Deloris Thorndike; sisters-in-law, Gerrie Barksdale and Linda Barksdale; and her adoring grandchildren, Chris, Diamond, Garrett, Angel, Jerry Jr., and Brady and great grandchildren, Milo, Ryder, Daniel, and Sam.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Ruth Allred Barksdale; brothers, Carl Barksdale and James Barksdale; and brother-in-law, Jim Thorndike.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service in the chapel of Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 North Morrison Blvd., Hammond, Louisiana on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 1:00 pm.  Visitation will begin at 9:00 am and continue until service time.

Interment will follow in Red Oak Baptist Church Cemetery, Livingston, Louisiana.  A Celebration of Armon's life will be held at the Westchurch of Christ, 1202 West Church Street, Hammond, Louisiana following the interment.
