Antonia "Lena" Costa

Antonia "Lena" Costa passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023, at the age of 97, at the Landmark Nursing Center of Hammond, surrounded by her family.  She was born on Friday, April 23, 1926, in Independence, Louisiana to the late Pauline and Joseph Sirchia. She was a lifelong resident of Independence, Louisiana. Lena enjoyed spending her days cooking her beloved homemade bread, coconut cake and lemon meringue pie. She was a faithful follower of God and the Catholic faith; faithfully praying and reciting her rosary daily. Lena loved spending time with her family and loved ones.  

Lena is survived by her sons, James and Joseph (Andrea) Costa; grandchildren, Brian Costa (Kori) and Erin Mendez (Nicholas); great-grandchildren, Danny Wells, Ethan and Brady Mendez and Brason Costa; as well as her brother Frank Sirchia (Rosalie).

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Russell J. Costa; parents, Pauline and Joseph Sirchia; and her siblings, John Sirchia, Annie Cacioppo, Christine Gulotta, Frances Costa and Katherine Giaratano.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, 8:30 am - 10:30 am. at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home -Hammond, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, LA 70401. A Funeral Mass will follow at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 620 3rd St., Independence, Louisiana 70443, at 11:00 am. 

Interment will follow in Colonial Cemetery, Independence, Louisiana.
