Anthony Lapuma Sr.

Anthony Lapuma Sr. passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023, in Hammond, Louisiana, at the age of 86.  He was born on Thursday, September 24, 1936 in Independence, LA to the late Lena Pumilia Lapuma and Carlo Lapuma. He was a resident of Independence, Louisiana. Anthony served over 20 years with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Department where he was a deputy and later chief bailiff in the parish courthouse until his retirement in 2004. He lived his entire life in Independence where he farmed strawberries, raised cattle, rabbits, and chickens.  He enjoyed rabbit hunting, raising beagles and fishing in his catfish ponds. 

Anthony is survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Anthony Lapuma Jr. (Alyson); brother-in-laws, Charles Canale Sr. and Joe Dorsa; longtime friend, John Polito Jr; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lena Pumilia Lapuma and Carlo Lapuma; son, Carlo Lapuma; brothers, Alex and Pete Lapuma; sisters, Margie Dilorenza, Katie Giuffria, Rose Lucido, Annie Dorsa, Dora Relan, Sally Canale and Lil Annie Lapuma.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home - Hammond, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, Louisiana 70401, on Monday, August 14, 2023, from 9:00 am -11:00 am, until services begin at 11:00 am.

Interment will follow in Colonial Cemetery, Independence, Louisiana.
