Annie Lee Scallan, of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the age of 83. She was born on Monday, January 18, 1943, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
She will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, a dedicated caregiver, and a woman who never once let you wonder what she really thought. For 25 years, Annie worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Belle Maison Nursing Home, spending her career caring for others. But nothing lit her up quite like her children and her grandchildren. She was endlessly devoted to them, always ready with a hug, a story, or a piece of advice they didn't ask for but probably needed. When she wasn't working or spoiling her grandkids, you could usually find her in the garden, hands in the dirt, tending to something green and growing. Her home was also a testament to her love of collecting trinkets - every shelf, wall, and windowsill held a small treasure with a story behind it, gathered over a lifetime of noticing the little things worth keeping. And on any given evening, there was a good chance she was parked in front of the TV watching wrestling or an old western. Annie was known for saying exactly what was on her mind. She wasn't interested in sugarcoating things, and those who knew her best understood that her bluntness was just another form of love. She will be deeply missed.
Annie is survived by her son, Michael Barrie, daughter, Vicky Strickland, daughter & son-in-law, Wanda and Billy Thompson; sister, Irma Jean Baham; brothers Alvis Baham (LuLu) and Roy Baham (Kim); grandchildren, Pamela Hubbard (Greg), Sheila Richardson, Mark Scallan (Jennifer), Ryan Thompson, Dana Gisclair (Jake), MaRanda Dionne (Corey); great-grandchildren, Caleb Thompson (Gracie), Derek Paul Thompson, Tank Scallan, Trevor Scallan, Oakley Scallan, Beau Scallan, Destinee Richardson, Tye Richardson, Sean Hubbard, Maddie Hubbard, Marley Gisclair, Maddox Gisclair, Kaine Thompson, Winnie Dionne and Wilder Dionne.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernette and Lovell Baham; brother, Wilbert Baham; sister, Vera Morgan; son-in-law, R.H. Strickland; grandsons, Derek Thompson and Clifford Richardson; and great-grandson, Ryan Thompson, Jr.
Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd., Hammond, Louisiana 70401 on Sunday, September 13, 2026, from 9:00 am until the funeral service begins at 11:00 am.
