Alfreda Corrine "Dee" Jacob

Alfreda Corrine "Dee" Jacob, beloved and vibrant, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on May 28, 2024.  Born November 3, 1928, Dee lived a life full of creativity and joy. She dedicated over 40 years as a supervisor for LP&L in the Hammond office, where she was admired for her work ethic and kindness. She was well-known for her Christmas displays in the former Ponchatoula office.

Dee's creativity knew no bounds. She had a passion for making puppets and delighted many of the littles in the family with her enchanting puppet shows, performing at children's parties and school assemblies. Her storytelling delighted us all. She enjoyed a long life of good health and high spirits.

She grew up on a farm in Ponchatoula with her mother, Irene, a Hungarian immigrant, and siblings Ruby Lee, Gladys, and Raymond "Biddy." They were a close family. Extended family enjoyed summertime picnics on the lawn of her Ponchatoula home and card games in the evening.

When Ponchatoula celebrated its Centennial, Dee was voted, "Best Dressed," for her period gown she designed and made herself - a testament to her talent and flair for fashion. She always looked magazine-ready - hair done, jewelry, scarves - everything coordinated and perfect. She was lovely.

She was an LSU season ticket holder and never missed a home game.

Dee had a keen eye for antiques, amassing a beautiful collection over the years. Her home was a treasure trove of history and charm. Among her many cherished traditions were the fabulous Christmas Eve gatherings she hosted. In the early days, her mother would dress as Santa, much to the delight of the children. In later years, she hosted an open house gathering, with families coming and going as traditions changed.

A gifted musician, Dee played the organ for First Presbyterian Church in Ponchatoula, bringing joy to many through her music. She had the rare ability to play by ear, a testament to her natural talent.

Dee lived with her mother until her mother's passing at the remarkable age of 96. She stayed busy traveling the world. Her favorite places being Venice, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Scotland, and Ireland. Her presence was a source of comfort and joy to those around her. She was so very loved and will be so very missed.

Dee's legacy is one of love and laughter. She leaves behind a family who is richer for having known her and who will forever hold her in their hearts. Rest in peace, dear Aunt Dee. We will cherish your memory forever.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Irene Tamas Jacob, sisters Ruby Lee Jacob Morel (Henry), Gladys Jacob Dufreche (Brent), brother Raymond Jacob (Peggy), and nephew James Joseph Morel.

Survived by nieces Dawn Morel Cole (D.A.), Renie Morel Clark (Roger), Penny Morel Edwards (late husband Bill), nephews Roy Dufreche (Helen), Lucien Dufreche, and many grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
